Studio Atmosphere + Policies
A QUIET, REFLECTIVE + CLEAN STUDIO …
In all of my classes my intention is to maximize your experience and the time you are creating to participate, by increasing your focus and sense of peace during our practice. To do this, I ask us all to let go of both outside stimulus with how you arrive for class, and any worry about anyone else’s approach to yoga by not focusing on what’s happening on anyone else’s mat during class. I ask that you do the diligent work of exploring what works best and feels best for your body in any moment based on my demonstrations, suggestions and simple cues.
This is a change to the new studio environment for all non-private sessions - how you arrive for class is equally important work to the physical work we will do on the mat once class begins. It is important to remember that we come to yoga not only to feel better but to quiet the mind. We cannot achieve a quiet mind by bringing in our day, something many of us do unconsciously - there must be a separation in order to fully connect within. Consider your time in my studio as your dedicated time to unplug and disconnect from the distractions of modern life. Entering as silently as possible for class will not only prepare you to maximize your investment, time and experience, but ensure that every body arriving is met with the same respective space for inner peace. This is a sign of mutual respect for all gathered to do the work of yoga. Each class will end with a few minutes for questions and answers about the movement experience.
The time for gathering your belongings to prepare to leave the studio is an appropriate time to greet familiar faces.
Anyone wishing for further personal attention is free to schedule a private coaching session with me which will provide you with my undivided attention, even greater personalized instruction and a chance for further engagement should you desire. I wholeheartedly ask that you treat the studio environment as you would your favorite place of worship or meditation. Embracing inner quiet introduces greater spiritual connection and awareness, reduces stress levels and increases sustainability in our lives.

OTHER POLICIES + RECOMMENDATIONS
Please park sensibly as we share the space with other lovely businesses and their valued customers. There may be times parking is more spacious but err on the side of parking sensibly. Please exit the parking lot carefully, looking both ways. Cars are moving and especially at night, and inclement weather, visibility lessens.
Please use caution walking into and exiting the studio.
Wear comfortable clothing. Something comfortable that lets you move around freely and that doesn’t bunch up around your face if you expect to get upside down. Yoga attire for me is generally shorts and a tee shirt or tank top. And yes, bare feet! You don’t have to have designer yoga pants to do yoga. Your clothing of choice should not be too loose, nor be offensive to others.
Please silence mobile devices upon entering Yoga with Joy.
The door to the studio will be opened 10 minutes prior to the start of class, please no early arrivals at this time. We start class on time to honor the teacher. We end class on time to honor the student. Please be punctual. If you know you’re running late, please call or text. I promise to end class on time.
The Yoga with Joy studio is not a “hot” studio. I offer room-temperature yoga, and in series where it’s appropriate, guide you to build internal heat – in Sanskirt, we call this internal heat, tapas – it’s much different than the Spanish meaning!
Please bring an extra layer of cozy clothing. Because this is a new environment, and the colder months are upon us, always err to bring along an extra cozy layer. I’m still learning how to best control the room’s temperature in this larger, open space, and this will vary based on the number of students in the room and time of day and year.
Please refrain from chewing gum or wearing perfume or strong essential oils. I want all students to be comfortable with as little visual, auditory and aromatic distractions as possible. I lightly diffuse essential oils into the air directly from my hands and will never make contact with you as I do so.
I recommend not coming to yoga with a full stomach. A light meal or snack that you’ve had ample time to digest will provide sufficient energy fuel for your practice. Meals should be consumed at least 2 hours prior to class; snacks at least 1 hour.
At this time, and until further notice, students are required to bring their own yoga mat and any props they may want for class to class, pre-sanitized. Studio yoga mats, blankets, straps and any other non-wipeable props will not be made available for student use. I recommend bringing a bath-sized towel with you if you wish to use a studio bolster.
The studio floor is padded to lessen impact and generally provide a more comfortable surface of support. The studio also offers a 12 foot ballet bar and metal folding chairs as added measures of stability when needed.
Due to the nature of the padded flooring, all water bottles must have a tight seal and be condensation-proof. Water spills cause irreparable damage to the flooring.
No food or open containers are allowed.
Two restrooms are available that may be used as a changing space.
YOUR HELP IN ADHERING TO ALL OF THE ABOVE POLICIES HELP TO ENSURE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF ALL AS WELL AS THE LONGEVITY AND VITALITY OF YOGA WITH JOY. I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND TRUST IN MY SERVICES.
