Meet Joy

Yoga Medicine ® Therapeutic Specialist,
Master Meditation Teacher, Licensed Massage Therapist, Living with Bilateral Knee Replacements

I’m known for my precision, therapeutic approach, and signature “why before how” philosophy—guiding students to understand the science and purpose behind every movement and breath. People often say my classes feel like a conversation with their body, because learning why a movement matters makes it easier to connect with, trust, and make it your own.

Based in Carbondale, PA, I work entirely online - specializing in yoga therapeutics and meditation for women 50+ who want a safer, more personalized alternative to studio yoga and public classes. Whether you're down the street or across the country, I design, coach and teach practices that address reduced flexibility, joint replacements, and exhaustion. The goal is to create intentional, targeted, routine therapeutic movements you can practice at home that will improve resilience, comfort, and adaptability in everyday life.

With 25 years of personal yoga practice—including 8 years of teaching yoga—I bring a seasoned perspective to this work. My background includes over 30 years of experience in education, athletics, and business, along with more than 1,600 hours of advanced training in yoga, meditation, and massage therapy through the lens of anatomy, physiology, neurobiology, therapeutics, research and human cadaver study. But what qualifies me most to guide you in developing yoga confidence isn’t just my professional expertise—it’s that I’m living your journey, too.

By 41, I had my second total knee replacement after years of progressive arthritic pain—the result of a lifetime of athletic rigor and a mix of genetics. At 46, I began navigating chronic stress, shaped by long-COVID, complex trauma, and a high output career. By 48, I was in full burnout. After a decade of pushing through, exhaustion had taken a toll on my nervous system, even affecting the mobility of my newly replaced knees.

Now, as I turn 50, I’m choosing to live optimistically and confidently with movement and nervous system limitations that are a real part of my everyday experience. This lived wisdom is what shapes how I teach: with compassion, practicality, relatability, and tools that respect your limits and nurture your potential as you create new habits for well-being.

So when I ask, “What if you had a teacher and coach who knows exactly how you feel?”—I mean it. I understand the challenges you face because I live them myself. That’s why I’ve built a practice that adapts to the realities of life after 50 when living with movement challenges and exhaustion. When we work together, your home becomes the most comfortable yoga studio you’ve ever experienced—one where your body is understood, your limits are respected, and your possibilities are expanded in ways that feel safe, supportive, and truly your own.

I’ve also completed coursework in LGBTQIA+ inclusion and equity, reflecting my ongoing commitment to social justice and creating safer, more accessible yoga spaces.

Why a Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Would Study a Cadaver

While many yoga trainings skim the surface of anatomy, my path as a therapeutic yoga teacher has led me far deeper.

For me, learning hands-on anatomy beyond the books, was a natural next step in a lifelong journey of understanding the body—not just as a system of muscles and bones, but as a lived, layered experience.

As a Yoga Medicine® Therapeutic Specialist, I’ve committed myself to working at the intersection of yoga, anatomy, and therapeutic application—especially for adults navigating joint replacements, limited mobility, and chronic stress.
